Press release · draft 1 · written by AI

Building permit waiting times halved cut by 39% .

AI writes fast and confidently.
Desken checks whether it’s right.

Desken is an app for Mac. AI writes the draft, three models check every claim against your own material, and a person approves the text before it goes out.

The problem

AI writes well. It just doesn’t know when it’s wrong.

A press release takes it a few seconds. And it sounds just as sure whether the figure is in the report or not.

If the report says 39 per cent, it may well write “halved”. If the councillor says “I wouldn’t dare say that”, it may well write “among the fastest in the country”.

Desken checks the draft against the material you’ve put in, and a person decides on every finding.

How it works

Five steps from the pile on your desk
to a text you dare send.

The canvas with the whole flow run in five zones: material, write, verify, approve and deliver. The connections are blue from the sources, yellow from the AI draft, red from the check and green after approval.
  1. 01 · Put it on the deskThe report, the interview and the figures. The text may only build on what’s here – not on something the model thinks it read somewhere. The threads are blue: raw source.
  2. 02 · AI writesFollowing your house rules, with your boilerplate. If the material is missing something, it writes [PRESS CONTACT MISSING] instead of making up a name. The thread turns yellow: AI text nobody has checked.
  3. 03 · Three robots proofreadThree models check every claim against the material without seeing each other’s answers. Claims they disagree on go to the top. Here they found mistakes, so the thread turns red.
  4. 04 · A person signs it offEach finding is marked handled or rejected. Then you approve the text, and the name and time are saved. Now the thread is green.
  5. 05 · Out the doorAs Word, PDF or cut down for LinkedIn – with a report on how the text came about, in case anyone asks.

Can you spot the five mistakes?

AI wrote the press release from the council’s own evaluation. It’s well written and has five mistakes.

Saltmere halves the waiting timecuts 25 days off the waiting time for building permits

Residents who want to build a detached house now get an answer in 39 days on average. Last year they waited 64 days.

Saltmere Council has cut 42 per cent39 per cent off the processing time in one year. At the same time, the council processed 1,214 applications in 2025 – more than evercompared with 1,086 the year before.

The explanation is a digital pre-check list that has more than halved the number of applications sent backbrought the share of applications sent back down from 31 to 18 per cent. That puts Saltmere among the fastest councils in the country.

Press contact: [PRESS CONTACT MISSING]Mette Holm, Head of Communications

  1. Contradicted by the material“halves” From 64 to 39 days is 39 per cent. Not 50. Report, p. 4
  2. Contradicted by the material“42 per cent” The report says 39. The model got creative. p. 4
  3. Disagreement“more than ever” The material only compares with 2024. Two models say no evidence, one says documented. p. 5
  4. Contradicted by the material“more than halved” From 31 to 18 per cent is a fall of 42 per cent. Half would have been 15.5. p. 7
  5. No evidence“among the fastest” The evaluation doesn’t compare with other councils. And the councillor says himself: I wouldn’t dare say that. p. 9 · interview 01:07
  6. GapThe press contact Wasn’t in the material, so the field is empty. A person fills it in.

OK, there were six. The sixth is a gap the AI left open, because nobody had told it who the press contact is.

Verify

When the robots argue, a person takes a look.

Three models from three different companies read the text separately. When they disagree about a claim, it goes to the top of the list, and you settle it.

Claim 4 of 8 · “more than ever”

Sonnet 5No evidence. The material only compares with 2024.
GPT-5.5Documented! 1,214 applications, right there in the report. 👍
Mistral Large 3No evidence. A number isn’t a record.
YouI’m with those two. Make it “more than the year before”.

Risk check

Five grumpy readers get the text before it goes out.

The risk check reads the text the way the journalist, the neighbouring council, the expert, the resident and the employee will read it – and writes down what each of them will ask. So you know the questions before the phone rings.

  • The journalist

“Halves” jumps out. Why is the council dressing up its own figures?

  • The neighbouring council

“Among the fastest”? We’re faster. We’ll happily say so in public.

  • The expert

The evaluation is the council’s own. Where’s the external validation?

  • The resident

Then why did I wait 70 days in the spring?

  • The employee

The checklist shifts the work onto the resident. The text doesn’t say so.

The risk check’s idea of the worst headline. The press release was due out on Tuesday at 8.

Things Desken doesn’t do.

  • It doesn’t make your texts legal. It documents how they came about. The responsibility is still yours.
  • It doesn’t make up a press contact. It writes [PRESS CONTACT MISSING] and waits patiently.
  • It doesn’t press “send”. Whoever approved the text does that.
  • It doesn’t know your councillor. But it knows what he said at 01:07.

Your data

We never see your texts.

Desken runs on your Mac and sends your texts straight to the AI provider you’ve chosen, using your own key. They never pass through us.

No content leaves the machine. Only local models run. For the text nobody may even mention in the corridor.

Who it’s for

For the people who get the call when the figure is wrong.

Public sector communications

Where every figure has to stand up against the report. And there’s always someone who checks.

Regulated industries

Where “significantly better” needs a footnote, a lawyer and ideally a signature.

Agencies

Where the client reads the case study with a pen in hand.
